The Smiths Station City Council voted Tuesday to approve the appointment of a new city clerk to replace Jerry Bentley, who is retiring after 14 years of service.
Administrative specialist Scott Johnston will serve as a temporary city clerk Oct. 1-Nov. 7.On Nov. 7, incoming Mayor Bubba Copeland will appoint a permanent city clerk.
The council also approved the appointment of City Planning Administrator Lisa Deason, who will serve as planning commissioner in Bentley’s place.
Mayor LaFaye Dellinger presented a proclamation to recognize Bentley for his service.
Bentley said he was proud to serve alongside the mayor and council.
“I have enjoyed every minute of it,” Bentley said. “It has been a real blessing.”
Councilman Morris Jackson expressed his appreciation to Bentley.
“We have enjoyed working with you,” Jackson said.
Johnston presented the monthly financial statement.
The income and expense totals for the city were $56,936.94 and $56,894.67 respectively.
The net ordinary income was $42.27.
