The Smiths Station Council voted Tuesday 6/29/16 to enter into an agreement with the Lee County Highway Department for resurfacing and improvements to Lee Road 728.
Lee County Commissioner Gary Long said the city would be responsible for paying up to $100,000 and the county would take care of any costs that go over that amount.
The city will use funds from its gas tax to pay for the street improvements.
Mayor Pro Tem Morris Jackson abstained from voting on the agreement, saying he did not know there were funds from the city’s gas tax that could be used on roads.
Shelby Branton, financial officer for the city, presented the monthly General Fund budget report, reflecting total income of $58,722.26 and total expenses of $49,206.21. Net income for the budget was $9,516.05.
